Artist
Laila Hosny Hussein
"Each painting starts as something I feel deeply — an emotion, a vision that lingers in my mind until I am compelled to bring it to life. It is all about the energy it carries, how it touches both myself and the spectator."
Born and raised in Cairo, Laila graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University and obtained her PhD in Radiology in 1991. She dedicated thirty years to her medical career - but art was always there. Since childhood she had been sketching, designing her own clothes, playing with interiors. In 2018, she made the leap - studying under specialized artists and exploring different techniques. A year later she held her first group exhibition. She hasn't stopped since: 20+ group exhibitions across Cairo's leading galleries and art events, and a first solo exhibition, Echoes of the Sailors, at Samah Art Gallery in 2024. Her work is deliberately diverse - sailors and sea, family and joy, bold abstraction, cubism, florals. She believes diversity is not a style choice but a reflection of who she is. Inspired by the family bond, the love of the sea, life, and hope. The name Art De Loulou combines what she loves to do with the name her granddaughters call her.
